NEW YEARS EVE 2006 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED BETWEEN BTV-54 AND THE BOULDER CITY COUNCIL ???? Jann Scott happened. In 2005 under the guise of NO Money Honey the Boulder city council told andy Bergey head of public access channel 54 to get rid of Jann Scott. At the head of the "get Jann Scott off the air " were Robin Bohannan, Andy Shulthiesse, Shaun McGrath, Suzy Ageston, Jack Stoakes and Mayor Mark Ruzzin. Bergey was told to get rid of Jann or lose your job. He lost his job. the council was treading on this ice because their contract with CATV and then BTV in 2006, strictly forbid them from getting into" content control" and censorship of "Jann Scott Live" , channel 54's only live call in TV show which let callers on uncensored. So the council did it in the coat room . they lined up Shaun MCGrath to do their dirty work. If he stopped Jann Scott Live and put on G rated shows only , they promised they would fund public access. So McGrath found Disney producer Tony perri and gave him the channel to do what he wanted with. Perri immediately pulled all local programming of the air including jann scott live and replaced it with Disney programming. He then asked the council what kind of programs they wanted and they said: programs which make us look good and won't make our phones ring about Jann Scott. That began WWIII in council chambers with citizen producers complaining...........of everything from harassment to mis use of funds to censorship, first amendment violations., discrimination, denied access etc. ......................This all started with the city council breaking the laws covering "content control" and wanting Jann Scott's first amendment rights violated. Tony Perri who was given a "green Light " to corruption thought he could do what he wanted to............and he was right.........the city council installed him to do their bidding. But somehow , it all went wrong and now the wheels are coming off Not just BTV but the corrupt Boulder City Council who to this day thinks it is their job to "manage first amendment rights free speech". they actually believe this . where will it all end ???? Council will probably take this to the bitter end and be left with the reputation of the most corrupt city council in Boulder's History. they will be challenged at every turn over BTV and their own wrong doings. In the end they will wish the hell they left the content on Channel 54 and Jann Scott Live the hell alone...........that they just referred all complaints on Jann to Jann. They will have wished they put their desires for "their kind of programming" on Channel 8 the municipal channel...the channel that they actually have control over. meanwhile, Jann Scott and all of his friends have parked themselves on Channel 8 at city council meetings teaching the city council new lessons in public policy , free speech and public access TV.....................to the councils horror. Not only that..........dozens of video blogs about the council and BTV have popped up on the internet. Yep............that city council sure shut Jann Scott up........... And what of the investigations launched on this council and public opinion when their Boy Tony went out and charged a new Mercedes to the city..........and then tried to walk off with half the city equipment.?? will Perri suit the city as a thank you....when he finally has had enough.....for being their stooge? Will the Boulder Access producers land the city in court??? Will the people of boulder get Jann Scott Live back on Channel 54?? that is what happened between BTV 54 and the boulder city Council Happily all of my shows have been picked up by Comcast Channel CET-5 which plays all over the front range. it is a much better channel than channel 54, is run professionally by comcast without any head aches . In 2006 our colorado TV Coverage increased 20 fold. Including our base Boulder. Woo Woo!! I met with two civil attorneys this weekend who said that Boulder was under a police state. I usually don't subscribe to police state rhetoric except that the evidence surrounding the actions of the Boulder City Council, the Daily Camera , BTV. and the Boulder Police Department make me ponder. They are all in a conspiracy to criminalize the first amendment..........at least as far as i am concerned: That is concerning me and what i say or write. Very Kafkaesque don't you think.? The council orchestrated my removal from channel 54 through their study group and installing Tony Perri and Shaun McGrath. Now they are having me investigated by the police for what i say. Wonder if they will try to Poison me? They did the same thing to Seth Brigham. Anyone who has criticized the council or BTV have been targeted for ridicule by them. The city manager and city attorney have as of yet not addressed the corruption between council and BTV. I won't hold my breath. l Negotiating my return to 54 seems unlikely since they promised council to control me and my content. Civil court is an option but it is expensive and even if you win there is still the permeating corruption of Boulder government and press. I see the only solution is going to city council meetings with a 5 minute vlog 25 times in 2007. That seems to be one space that no one controls . Mark Ruzzin tries but he is no match for me in a public forum, on TV, or in the face of the truth. Jann Scott Peoples republic of Boulder August 11 2006 The Boulder city council is apparently at it again.................sticking their "collective busy body nose" into Rob Smokes my Space journal. This reminds me back in 1975 when an equally right winged "moralist council" tried to prohibit Tim Fuller from running for Council ....They in fact had Tim impeached after he was elected............His crime.......hey was an openly gay man. Rob Smokes crime is that he is " a writer". This, also, reminds me of what this council did to me last year...........They put their " right winged moralist agenda" to work and tried to suppress my voice of descent on public access tv when a few people complained about my show. But this council seems to be oblivious and beyond stupid.............. It is their desire to bring down the ACLU and my television show on them again and make themselves and our town look as dumb as a box of hair. What a bunch of Ninnies! Fine by me...........I live for this kind of shit! Jann Scott from Boulder Colorado censorship capital of AmeriKa May 30 2006 Boulder this weekend Well, I really don't quite know where to begin. It started off as a normal American holiday with the city abuzz in the dawn hours with 50,000 people attending the Boulder Boulder 10 K race.....6 blocks from my house. I was going to run it...but didn't train......yet somehow going for a run in a carnival atmosphere so early in the morning just didn't seem right. So i fed the birds and had coffee and sat on my deck, alone and desperate............My life didn't seem right......somehow not fullfilled. I had reheated some day old coffee and leaned back and looked up at my half painted house. The painter had taken the day off..........My staff was gone.......... In a corner off the side of the deck lay 30 potted flowers ready to be planted.............which i knew i had to get to before the sun baked them. That meant work...........and i was fucking sick of work. I didn't want to be alone , yet I relished it. I knew I really needed to get laid. but that didn't appear on the immediate horizen...........so I was left to planting flowers. As i knelt planting away..........I waited for the annual sound of F-16 fly over headed toward folsom field signaling the official begining opf summer. and then as if on Que I could hear the slow and low roll of thundering fighter jets................and stood up....there they were........4 battlestars in fine formation. (where the fuck were you on 911?......off the new jersey coast that's where......at least you here now.....I wonder if thy're armed>) the President came on CNN from Arlington national Cemetary............going on about the dead. i thought of my dad who fought on D-day, the youg man i mentored who returned last summer from 4 years in the marine corp and saw action the whole time and the old man who lived down the street who died last year.............He was dixie democrat who grew up a dirt farmer in Tennesse and served in the navy during WWII. L C Birchfield was also a convicted moonshiner who ran a still at 14 and used to tell stories of out running government agents on Roan Mountain where he grew up. I used to tell LC we should buid a still in my back yard. He remembered exactly how to distill corn mash. The phone rang. I t was Kim. She had walked the BB and wanted to know if I wanted to meet her at the Creek Festival............I wanted to kill myself out of loneliness..........but decided that had to be some amusement walking with thousands of touirists in crowed hot lines just to see the cornball booth. So I put my new running shoes on , hopped in my new Hybrid Escape and glided silently down town, I had been to the creek festival so many times.................knew every booth......every junk seller .....every guru tent........every save the earth, save the whale, save the God Damned Darter Snail display on main street. Thank God we left and got some iced tea at the Tea Spot near the fountain on Boulder One Plaza. Why can't these new age old lady tea joints have lemon wedges for thier too strong bitter black tea.? Jesus is that too much too ask? Kim was in a serious car wreck several years ago......and she showed me her scars. I was glad to see that she was still alive. I gave Kim a hug goodbye headed back to my house jacked up on caffine. I was feeling happier...more alive........I don't remember the drive home............just that i found myself at the computor writing and the phone rang. It was Laura Hall calling from a car dealership. Laura is a photographer from Denver who is also recovering from an automobile accident. She wasn't operating on all 4 cylinders that day. Her new ford focus was giving her problems and she had taken it back to the dealership and they were attempting to sell her another car rather than fixinmg hers under the lemon law. I said" Jesus Christ! Laura......you are going to lose thousands if you do this" " well, I don't know what to do. I left my car in Denver and they came and picked me up" I'm stranded here." she said "look, you've got to get out of there. you are vulnerable right now. you've been kidnapped and the bastards are going to rape you" I pleaded. I met Laura at the block busters a few blacks down the street from the dealer. i had told her to walk out the door and get away from there as quickly as possible. So now it was a trip to Denver doing my civic duty to protect yet another head injured friend. (Gee maybe laura will fuck me. Fat chance .She was raped by her father and she trusts me. ) But it was fun cause we stopped in some slacker bar across rom the Bluebird theater and had cokes and and a chicken sandwhich. A thunderstorm blew up as we sat by open windows facing Colfax Avenue................Dinero says the rain 'washes away all of the scum and filth of the city.........but somehow this was pure........even though cofax can be a shit hole..........my motives had been good that day and I didn't have anything to regret. April 15 2006 I spent years talking about alcohol abuse on radio and TV here in Boulder. The more i dug and traveled with the cops to the hill, the worse it looked. I went into Boulder bars late at night. 11:00 pm to 2:00 and witnessed a sea of drunkenness and over serving. I interview cocktail waitresses and bar tenders. One them became clear then as today. Bar owners and mangers play cat and mouse with the cops. The will routinely over serve after midnight. The try to get guys drunk and then slam their credit cards by promoting shot trays to a table. They will max out a credit card to a drunk male patron. Bars make their big money between 11:30 and 1:30 am using this practice. Shift managers make bonuses based on sales during this time. Bar owners practice constant deception. They use sex and wild times to promote alcohol sales. As a side bar to all of this. Bars support cocaine dealers by turning a blind eye to cocaine sales by waitress or bar tenders. This is a very sophisticated operation..Any ask any college student or attendees of late night bars and they will tell you cocaine is prevalent. Of course cocaine allows people to stay awake and drink more . so it is good for the bars. This issue is an overwhelming health concern to mental health, social services, police, and jail. Ask them if i am right. But it is the deception of the alcohol industry that should concern you...............these people are SLICK. I think Jann Otto opened a can of worms for Mamacittas that should be dumped3d out on the ground to see what's really there. Yesterday i bought a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. It gets 33 miles to the gallon around Boulder and 26 mph on the highway. This hybrid gets higher mileage on 28th street during rush hour traffic because it only operates on its eclectic motor. It needs the small 4 cyl motor on the highway for higher speeds. But i rarely go out of town. 90% of my driving is in Boulder and almost all of it is for work...to haul camera equipment around. Otherwise i ride my bike which has zero emissions. Yet my Escape hybrid is the lowest emission auto on the planted. Plus it has a lot of low end torque so it will blast off from light or zoom up Lee hill road. It also has zero noise pollution....It moves silently around Boulder. With gas prices going to $3.00, I will save 50% over my 2003 chevy tracker which got 17 mph around town. Not only that the US government will give me a $5000 tax refund for purchasing it. So my purchase price now drops to a very affordable, all wheel drive small SUV. Who could ask for more. Actually, I think the city should give tax rebates and parking incentives,(like free parking for any hybrid) to help clean up the air in Boulder. Also, the Hybrid technology is very cool: It generates it's own electricity, has a belt drive system, a lithium battery, several cooling systems, electric steering,and a "smart car" computer. Boulder could lead America by promoting this technology until fully solar powered cars arrive. January 6, 2006 This is what I was talking about: In 1993 TCI went to all of our sponsors and tried to get them not to fund us. We hired Business attorney Duncan Campbell who got TCI to settle over "fair trade violations".....TCI was then prohibited from interfering with our sponsors,how many we had or how many we showed on the air or contacting them.( Perri is headed for trouble here) This happened again in 1999 when CATV tried to take our sponsors and limit what we do. Here we hired famed attorney Lee Hill plus the Boulder PD and district attorneys office came to our defense. CATV lost their contract with the city.....after CATV suspended me and caused such a mess that the city got sick of them ....fired the board and operator and brought in Andy Bergy for ten years.(once again Perri and "his team" are neophites and are about to start WWIII over covered ground) This is more censorship.....and is trying to supress me a worthwhile pursuit when i could actually help him ?? So we have come full cycle.......... But good luck talking with Perri........He needs to leave the producers alone, not try to censor how many funders we have.....or how many we show on the air. Perri and BTV are actually the City Council study group who Hi_jacked Public Access 54 with the soul purpose of shutting me upand getting objectionable programming off the air.. Perri is a government stooge. 2. Even though the Live Studio is fully optional , Perri will not allow me to do Jann Scott Live "Tonight at our usual time slot. this is a program that has bee going on since 1989. Perri has indeed cancelled jann Scott Live, is violating my 1st amendment rights, civil rights and has taken his marching orders from City Council to "shut jann Scott up", Take away Jann Scott's access to the channel","do not let jann Scott criticize the city council"...to" get jann Scott off the air." 3. BTV has radically changed public access TV 54 into the "Lone Ranger" channel ...perri being the Lone Ranger. 90 %of the Channel are Tony perri promo's about his personal work, his vision for BTV and old movies and TV shows. It is absolutely terrible. All of our local Boulder programs are virtually gone....reduced by 90%. This is a major play to sanitize the channel and make it look line Nick at night a nice PG piece of shit. which is exactly what it is. 4 Perry has changed all of the policies and procedures in a vacuum. First of course is all live programs cancelled. producers ability to fund raise and show sponsors cut dramatically to nil. Please write to perri and council. Ask Rob smoke and the human relations commission to officially launch a civil right violation investigation in to perri and City council, ask the adl not to invite the city to participate in the up coming civil rights awards; ask the NAACP to investigate the city. all black and native, Hispanic and Vietnamese programming has been taken off. Only white people are allowed on BTV. January 1, 2006 As 2006 begins BTV takes over public access channel 54 as a sole source provider contracted by the city. After attacking CATV 54 for years the city barely allowed the people to have a channel while their channel 8 prospers from franchise fees. BTV receives no Comcast funding. This is an absolute attempt by the Boulder City council to suppress freedom on speech while keeping the government voice of propaganda alive and well. This current city council has also proven itself racist by not allowing Tim ":Black Cowboy" activist to hold a partial silent vigil during his 3 minutes public participation in front of council. He attempted to hold up news headlines and not speak while trying to bring attention racism here in Boulder. He was interrupted by the city attorney who told council that they were not forced to endure his silence. Tim was then forced to speak. He was clearly singled out by council because he is a black activist. Rodrigo Garcia , boulder businessman and argentine attorney was also shunned by city staff and council when he attempted to become part of the bid process for public access TV. Mr. garcia also has a case against council because he has openly stated that he was discriminated against because of his hispanic roots. I witnessed both of their treatment and was shocked. This city council claims to be writing hate speech legislation, yet they derailed their own Human Relations Commission work at opening a hot line. In fact the commissions work was openly assailed and illegally micro-managed by council . the city manager publicly apologized. Even so the Chair of the human relations commission condemned councils actions toward Public access TV and accused them of violating the first amendment by trying to silence the voice of the public. the evidence continues to mount as the NAACP begins to investigate councils actions. Interesting how things change. i was condemned by council for my use of parody on easter sunday and now during Christmas Holidays the city council is up against the ropes by three groups for violating civil rights in earnest. I used to be a TV cheerleader for the city and council but as we enter 2006 i must say this is the most intolerant, suppressive city government in recent history. at least my taped magazine shows will continue on BTV 54. Jann Scott Live will not since it was a target of Council as was the live studio at the Dairy. But I will continue my voice of descent on Channel 8 during public participation at their own council meetings. then i can look them in the eyes and discuss that which they hate: my voice uncensored. December 4, 2005 MORE 54 NIGHT,MARE Deputy Manager BURKE today called Jann Scott Live and has been, for the past two days negotiate the return of Jann Scott Live to channel 54 BTV. BTV's Tony Perri cut JS Live citing some ridiculous reason that the number one show on channel 54 (Boulders only live call-in talk show 8 ,54.0r63) could not go live. All we have to do is walk in the Dairy studio and go live...we have been operating the equipment for years.......The studio belongs to CATV not BTV. CATV is trying to keep the studio for live shows and performances.....but it make no sense to kill "Jann scott Live" our 7500 weekly viewers. People are furious over this . By canceling JS Live Tony perri is only hurting his own efforts..........Jann Scott Live represents the essence of Public access live call in uncensored free speech......... Perris BTV operation is on Pearl. While live studio is up we should continue. CATV has asked jann to help raise funding for the studio at the dairy. We must continue as long as possible. JS Live and the sports conection are the only live call in shows. No one else does live in that studio.This has been an on going show. All other Jann Scott productions go to suport JS Live.
